All that bullshit you hear about being able to walk out the store in 10 minutes is just that, bullshit.
Oh sure, some people can and do.
If your record is squeaky clean.
If you don't have a name similar to a felon or others who should not be allowed to purchase guns.
If none of the numerous computers involved in the process does not malfunction.
If NICS is not busy.
If NICS is not shorthanded due to a holiday.
If the FFL relays the right information.
If the NICS personnel key the information right.
If the NICS personnel read the information right.
If the NICS has the complete record.
If the NICS personnel don't have an ax to grind.
Now you will be told that getting a CHL (concealed handgun license) will help avoid this problem. As will getting a NICS VAF UPIN. A process where you pay money, fill out forms, get fingerprinted, mail in the forms and wait some more...surprise surprise.
Both of these options to pay out more of your hard earned money, and waste more of your valuable time to get further into the system just so you can exercise the rights to protect yourself and your family that you should have to begin with.
To me a delay is the same as a deny. Since they are denying me my rights to purchase a firearm in the time frame that I choose.
